Biography
Spencer Smith was born
into a military family and spent his early years at
various stateside and overseas bases. After
graduating from high school, Spencer attended the
University of Texas at Austin on a Navy ROTC
scholarship. He received a BA in Government and was
commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United
States Marine Corps in 1973.
Spencer retired from
active duty in 1997 as a Lieutenant Colonel. During
his years of service he served as Presidential
Command Pilot at Marine Helicopter Squadron One and
as a helicopter squadron commander.
Spencer chose to
live in Harker Heights as he began a second career
as a financial advisor. He has taken an active
interest in community affairs to include the Harker
Heights Chamber of Commerce, Greater Killeen Chamber
of Commerce Ambassadors, Military Officers
Association of America, Bell County Texas Exes and
Killeen Lodge 1125 A.F. & A. M. Spencer served on
the Harker Heights Planning and Zoning Commission
for six years and he is currently serving on the
Zoning Board of Adjustments. He has been married to his wife Karen
for thirty-three years. They attend Temple Bible
Church in Temple. They have two adult children and
six grandchildren.
